Austin Peay State University Women’s Tennis blanks SIU Edwardsville

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team dominated from start to finish, blanking Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, 7-0, in Ohio Valley Conference action, Friday.

The Govs (9-6, 5-1 OVC) were utterly dominant over the two-time reigning OVC champions. Coach Ross Brown changed his doubles lineup to reflect the health of Claudia Yanes Garcia, who moved back to No. 2 doubles with her twin sister Lidia Yanes Garcia. The duo easily disposed of SIUE’s No. 2 duo and the new team of Brittney Covington and Fabienne Schmidt easily swept aside their opponents at No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles point for the Govs.

The Govs continued their dominance over the Cougars (0-17, 0-5 OVC) in singles. Every Govs player won their respective singles match, with five of six Govs winning in straight sets. Claudia got back to her stellar form with a blistering 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Schmidt and Lidia comfortably won their matches to give the Govs their eighth win in their last nine matches.

The Govs host Eastern Illinois, 2:00pm, Saturday to conclude the weekend. Austin Peay will also honor senior Brittney Covington before the match on Senior Day.
