Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics department and baseball team will join forces with alumnus Stephen Huff to raise awareness for lung cancer during its Saturday, April 14th, 2018 Ohio Valley Conference contest against Eastern Kentucky.
Huff, a pitcher on the 2007-10 Governors baseball teams, was diagnosed with Stage IV inoperable non-small cell lung cancer in June 2017. A teacher at Centennial High School in Nashville, he has dedicated his free time to raising research funding and awareness for lung cancer since his diagnosis.
As part of his effort, he is attempting to get a specialty lung cancer awareness license plate in Tennessee to help raise funds for lung cancer research. Huff is working to get the 1,000 Tennessee residents needed to launch the license plate through his newly launched The Huff Project website.
Austin Peay athletics will recognize and assist those efforts with Stephen Huff Lung Cancer Awareness Day, April 14th. Fans are encouraged to join the Governors by wearing white to the contest, which is appropriately the ribbon color for lung cancer awareness. Huff also will take his familiar spot on the mound for a ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.
How To Help
Huff has two years to get at least 1,000 Tennessee residents to purchase a specialty plate and to raise at least $35,000.
Specialty license plates would be available for an annual cost of $61.50 with $35.00 of this cost going towards the beneficiary – in Huff’s case, the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
