APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team looks to continue its push toward a berth into the Ohio Valley Conference Championship at noon, Saturday at Rose Park in a doubleheader versus Belmont University.

Also, APSU was originally scheduled to play Tennessee State in a conference doubleheader on Sunday in Nashville, but those games have been postponed due to predicted rain in the mid-state area. A make-up date and start time is yet to be announced.

The Govs (25-15, 8-4 OVC), who currently sit in fifth-place in the conference standings, comes into the matchup versus the Bruins having spit a non-conference doubleheader at Samford in Wednesday, while Belmont (22-15, 3-8 OVC) sits in 10th-place in the conference standings.

Offensively after 40 games this season, the Govs are batting .281 as a team — including five players hitting over .300 – led by junior third baseman Danielle Liermann, who enters the weekend hitting at a .398 clip, including a team-high 15 home runs and 44 RBIs.

2018 APSU Softball - Bailey ShorterShe is followed by freshman outfielder Bailey Shorter (.333, 2 HR, 14 RBI), junior outfielder Kacy Acree (.308, 6 HR, 23 RBI), junior pitcher/outfielder Morgan Rackel (.307, 7 HR, 25 RBI) and junior outfielder Natalie Schilling (.306, 35 R, 28 SB).

In the circle, the Govs are led by Rackel’s 13-6 mark, which includes a 1.75 ERA and 147 strikeouts in 128 innings of work. She has also recorded two saves.

Junior Kelly Mardones has posted an 8-4 mark this season, with a 2.48 ERA and 24 k’s in 82 innings, while sophomore Kelsey Gross comes into the matchup with a 4-5 record, two saves, a 4.34 ERA and 35 k’s in 50 innings pitched.

About the Belmont Bruins

Belmont BruinsOffensively, the Bruins are batting .269 as a team this spring with three batters hitting over .300 – led by Lexi Rouse’s .356 average, including a team-high eight home runs and 24 RBIs.

In the circle, Brooklin Lee has been the workhouse for the Bruins pitching staff this spring with a 12-7 record, a 1.77 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 138.1 innings pitched.

APSU Govs Hit-and-Run

2018 APSU Softball - Kacy AcreeAustin Peay (2.53) and Belmont (2.25) are the two top teams in the OVC in Team ERA.

Governors pitchers have given up 51 walks this season to opponents, the fewest by any OVC team.

Junior Kacy Acree has reached base a career-best 16 straight games, which is also the fourth-longest such streak by an Austin Peay player since 2000.

Morgan Rackel’s 13 wins this spring ties for the sixth-most all-time in a single season by a Govs pitcher.
