Memphis, TN – With the outdoor season winding to an inexorable close, Austin Peay State University track and field put the finishing touches on another solid weekend at the Memphis Tiger Invitational, Saturday.
Another week marked another win for junior Savannah Amato in the pole vault. The Delaware, Ohio native hit 3.92m (12-10.25) for the win, with freshman Morgan Bradley (3.67m; 12-0.50) and junior Dascha Hix (3.67m; 12-0.50) fifth and sixth, respectively.
Redshirt freshman Maya Perry-Grimes proved more than capable of putting together standout performances in the field and track this weekend. She finished 11th in the triple jump (11.71m; 38-5.0) and rocketed down the track with a career-best 12.07 mark in the 100m dash, good for fifth; she was joined near the top of 100m list by teammates Sabrina Richman (12.10, sixth) and Memphis native Allysha Scott (12.13, seventh), both of whom turned in personal-bests.
Freshman Lennex Walker clocked a 14.20 in the 100m hurdles, taking runner-up honors, with fellow freshman Denia Hill-Tate‘s personal-best 14.31 mark moving her into the top-eight among Ohio Valley Conference competitors. This was the week for newcomers as another freshman, Keleah Shell, put together a 10th-place, 2:23.67 run in the 800m.
In Friday night’s 1500m run, Austin Peay State University junior Emmaculate Kiplagat won the second heat with a 4:46.96 run, in her first career attempt no less.
Both relay teams performed admirably in the Bluff City. In the 4x100m event, sophomores Diamond Battle and Tymeitha Tolbert joined Walker and Perry-Grimes for a fourth-place, 46.56 mark while Richman, Scott, sophomore Amelia Thiesing and freshman Allana Johnson were runner-up finishers in the 4x400m at 3:45.39.
The Govs return to action next week in their penultimate regular season event at the Indiana-hosted Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington.
