Murray, KY – Austin Peay State University’s softball team saw its win streak reach a program tying 10-straight games, Friday afternoon at Racer Field, as the Governors swept Murray State in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader by finals of 6-0 and 8-6.
The two wins knot-up the standing in the annual Heritage Bank Battle of the Border competition between the two schools, with both schools currently standing at 32 points each, with only the OVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship left to decide this school-year’s winner.

Edwardsville, IL – For a second straight game, Austin Peay State University saw a trio of pitchers combine to post a shutout in a 7-0 Ohio Valley Conference victory against SIU Edwardsville, Friday night at the Simmons Baseball Complex.
Starter Michael Costanzo (8-1) had to work his way through the first three innings, facing 13 batters.
Nashville, TN – Frankie Montas went six solid innings and Anthony Garcia knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 3-1 win over the Memphis Redbirds in front of 9,259 fans at First Tennessee Park Friday night.
Montas earned his first win of the season and went six innings for the first time since 2015. The right-hander allowed a second inning home run to Adolis Garcia but settled in. He scattered six hits and finished his night by striking out Patrick Wisdom to end the sixth.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, the Sounds got a big two-out hit from Slade Heathcott to even the game at 1-1. With Nick Martini at third, Heathcott lined a base hit through the left side.

Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) is excited to announce its Rolling Study Halls pilot program in partnership with Google and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation.
Rolling Study Halls is a Google-funded initiative that seeks to improve technology access and extend learning to the after-school space. By powering school buses with WiFi and providing educator support, Rolling Study Halls is helping students across the US—especially in rural communities—access more learning hours outside of school.

Brentwood, TN – Longtime Austin Peay State University men’s basketball head coach and athletics director Dave Loos has been elected to the Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame and will be officially inducted at the annual OVC Honors Brunch, Friday, June 1st, 2018 at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Nashville.
The Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame was organized in 1977 with the intent of honoring the coaches, administrators, faculty and staff that have been associated with the OVC for at least five years and provided extensive and outstanding service to the Conference.
Clarksville, TN – Manna Café Ministries will conduct a food drive on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 and is in need of volunteers. Locations are all local Walmart’s, neighborhood market Walmart’s, Kroger’s, Food Lions, and Dollar General. This event will begin at 10:00am.
Volunteers will be standing at stores asking for shoppers to donate.
At Manna Café, we distribute roughly 1.8 million pounds of food and 26,000 hot meals per year — so one of our main battles is keeping food on our shelves.
Austin Peay State University names seasoned pilot/flight instructor Charles Weigandt director of proposed Rotor Wing Program
Clarksville, TN – Charles W. Weigandt, a 24-year U.S. Army veteran and founding member of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, was recently named director of Austin Peay State University’s proposed Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Science program, with a concentration in rotor wing (helicopters). He began his new role at APSU on Tuesday, May 1st, 2018.
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Police Patrol Officers located and arrested Kirby G. Wallace near Hawkins Road on Friday morning, May 4th, 2018 about 8:15am, not far from where the Chevy Astro van was located earlier.
The officers, who were investigating a suspicious person report of someone running and jumping into some bushes, made the arrest without injury or incident. Wallace did not resist.

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is offering a full slate of programs for youth and adults at its three Community Centers in the coming weeks.
Many of these are first-time programs.
