Nashville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU)’s softball team held off a scrappy Tennessee State squad, Sunday, May 6th at Tiger Field, as Govs closed their regular-season schedule with an 8-5 Ohio Valley Conference victory to end the season with a school record 11-game win streak.
The Govs (36-15, 17-4 OVC) and Tigers (4-48, 1-20 OVC) has the second game of the doubleheader called in the top of the third inning, with APSU leading 4-1, due to thunder storms.
Nashville, TN – Franklin Barreto hit a pair of home runs and Kendall Graveman put together a solid outing in the Nashville Sounds’ 8-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds in front of a sellout crowd of 10,712 Sunday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Barreto lined a two-out, two-run single to left field to give the Sounds a 2-1 lead. Anthony Garcia pitched in and followed with a run-scoring base hit to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Sounds never trailed again as the offense kept churning while Graveman held down Memphis. The right-hander allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings and picked up his first win of the season.

Edwardsville, IL – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team fell behind early and could not catch up, dropping the final game of its Ohio Valley Conference series against SIU Edwardsville, 12-7, Sunday afternoon at Simmons Baseball Complex.
Austin Peay (28-20, 17-10 OVC) scored the game’s first run as shortstop Garrett Kueber hit his third home run of the season for an early 1-0 lead.
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Police report a Cessna 182 crashed on landing at the Clarksville Regional Airport about 3:30pm Sunday, May 6th, 2018.
The aircraft touched down, went through the perimeter fence and came to rest on the shoulder of Outlaw Field Road, blocking one lane of traffic.
Initial reports are that the pilot was the only occupant.
The cook off was held in honor of Dwayne Byard who past away three years ago. Proceeds from the event went towards a scholarship fund for Dwayne’s grandchildren.
Seventeen teams competed for trophies and cash prizes. There was BBQ, ribs and more for sale.
Nashville, TN – A Tennessee Statewide Endangered Child Alert has been issued by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on behalf of the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office for 4 year-old Kalynn Turnbow.
She is a white female, with brown hair, brown eyes, 3’05”, and 30 pounds. Kalynn was last seen on April 4th, 2018 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee for treatment to a broken leg and was in the company of Jason Bradford a 44 year-old white male with brown hair, brown eyes, 6’01”, and 198 pounds.

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System awarded 1.6 million for Voluntary Pre-K program by Tennessee Department of Education
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Candice McQueen announced today that 18,320 students in 916 classrooms across the state will benefit from the Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) program in the 2018-19 school year. Nearly 95 percent of districts in Tennessee will receive VPK funding designed to serve 4-year-olds who are at-risk and those in high-priority communities.
Clarksville-Montgomery County School System awarded $1,592,583.88 for 17 Voluntary Pre-K Classrooms in 2018-19.
Clarksville, TN – The annual Blessing of the Bikes was this weekend at the Bald Knob Cross of Peace. Located in Alto Pass Illinois, this year’s event drew thousands of bikers who came to the foot of this magnificent symbol of hope to receive a personal blessing.
Sponsored by the Christian Motorcycle Association, bikers came from all over the country to make the trek to the cross and support the work of this organization.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Pasadena, CA – NASA’s Mars Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) mission is on a 300-million-mile (483-million-kilometer) trip to Mars to study for the first time what lies deep beneath the surface of the Red Planet. InSight launched at 4:05am PDT (6:05am CDT) Saturday from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
“The United States continues to lead the way to Mars with this next exciting mission to study the Red Planet’s core and geological processes,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine.
