Citizens simply leave their donations of non-perishable goods in a sturdy bag next to their mailbox before the delivery of the mail on Saturday, May 12th.

Letter carriers will collect the food as they deliver mail along their postal routes. Donations of canned soup, canned vegetables, canned meats and fish, and packaged pasta, rice or cereal are recommended.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan commended the letter carriers and issued a proclamation to support the food drive.

“These men and women are dedicated to community service, and put in a lot of extra work to make this food drive a success,” Mayor McMillan said. “So let’s all do our part and partake in this special day of giving.”

This year local letter carriers will distribute the food they collect to Loaves and Fishes and Urban Ministries, two well-established food agencies in Clarksville.

“Over the years, the food drive has grown in importance and in impact,” said Ray Maki, president of the local NALC branch. “This is something that local letter carriers take seriously, and we appreciate that our community joins in and helps us provide food to people who need it. All the food we collect will remain right here in Clarksville.”

People who have questions about the Clarksville drive should ask their letter carrier, contact their local post office, or go to www.nalc.org/food ; www.facebook.com/StampOutHunger ; or www.twitter.com/StampOutHunger
