“This program removes a common barrier — the lack of affordable transportation — that can reduce the ability of our youth to engage in positive activities,” Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan said. “We want to help families by giving young people transportation to jobs and athletic, social, and educational programs during the summer. ”

Youth are invited to become city explorers on routes that provide safe daily transportation to many parks, pools, and recreation centers operated by the Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department. A full list of Parks and Recreation programs and activities is available at www.cityofclarksville.com/parksrec

The bus routes also offer access to the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library, the Roxy Regional Theatre, the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center, historical sites and special events.

“The program provides free and safe rides to help our youth to have a fun and productive summer,” Clarksville Transit SystemS Director Arthur Bing said. “This will give our young people, despite their means, opportunities to find summer jobs. It will also give them transportation to the large number of City programs geared for them.”

Parents will also benefit from the Summer Youth Ride Free Program by giving kids the option of taking the bus to work and activities, saving families money on fuel and creating less wear and tear on their vehicles.
