Austin Peay State University Record Three Govs named to Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – A trio of Austin Peay State University student-athletes were named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Women’s tennis athletes Brittney Covington and Lidia Yanes Garcia as well as women’s golf athlete Ashton Goodley were each first-team selections in District 3 which includes Division I schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. It is Austin Peay’s largest group of All-District Women’s At-Large selections in any year.

Brittney Covington

APSU Tennis - Brittney ConvingtonBrittney Covington , a Clarksville native, finished her collegiate career with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average.

She received her bachelor’s degree this month with a double major in biology and English.

Covington also enjoyed her best season on the tennis court, posting five victories during the spring season after a five-win campaign in the fall.

Lidia Yanes Garcia

APSU Tennis - Lidia Yanes GarciaLidia Yanes Garcia, of Los Realejos, Spain, finished her junior season with an unblemished 4.00 grade-point average while majoring in computer science with a minor in mathematics.

A three-time OVC Player of the Year, she posted a 16-match win streak during her junior season, finishing the spring season with a 16-2 record and an 8-1 record in Ohio Valley Conference action.

Ashton Goodley

2018 APSU Women's Golf - Ashton GoodleyAshton Goodley, of Eldorado, Illinois, finished her junior campaign with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average, majoring in psychology with a health minor.

Goodley led the Governors with a 77.33 stroke average this season and was the low individual three times and had three Top 10 finishes, ultimately earning first-team All-OVC honors.


First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
