“Day of Action is an exciting time,” said Ginna Holleman, local United Way CEO.

“On June 21st each year, United Ways in more than 400 communities around the world join together the hearts and hands of those who desire to make a difference. Volunteering doesn’t necessarily require any skill set or tremendous time commitment.  It just takes a decision to act. When you raise your hand to help, you invest in your community and you invest in yourself. Whether it’s one moment, one hour or one day, volunteers find that they get back just as much as they give,” stated Holleman.

In partnership with other local organizations, the Day of Action will include a range of diverse service projects, ranging from serving meals to landscaping and park clean-up.

The local Day of Action projects are posted on ‘Volunteer United’, an online volunteer platform for both organizations and individuals in the community to utilize as a resource to seek opportunities and obtain volunteers.

“Volunteer United is a unique program for our community,” said Sarah Wood, United Way Outreach Manager. “Part of United Way’s continued mission is to increase volunteerism throughout our region of work. We believe Volunteer United enhances the potential of a service minded community by not only providing a centralized location for individuals to find volunteer opportunities, but also connecting individuals to the right project based off their specific interests.”

Many local organizations operate through the work of diligent volunteers. The needs are out there as well as individuals wanting to help. Missing was the communication resource between the two, said Wood.
