Austin Peay State University Softball coach Rodney DeLong resigns, heads to North Texas

APSU SoftballClarksville, TNRodney DeLong, who led Austin Peay State University’s softball team to a 39-win campaign in 2018, has announced his resignation, effective immediately after accepting the head coaching position at North Texas, Wednesday morning.

DeLong led the Governors softball program to a program-record 39 victories in his lone season in Clarksville. Austin Peay finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference regular season race and third in the OVC tournament.

The Governors were selected to participate in the National Invitational Softball Championship at season’s end.

Dillon Bryant, an assistant coach in 2018, has been named interim head coach of the Governors softball program.

“I want to thank Rodney for elevating our softball program and setting it on a good foundation,” said athletics director Ryan Ivey. “The program is in good hands with Dillon agreeing to take over while we determine the next step in our softball program’s evolution.”
