Austin Peay State University to search Nationally for next Softball Coach

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) athletics department announced Monday, July 8th, 2018 that it will conduct a national search for its head softball coaching position.

The search begins after Rodney DeLong departed June 13th to accept a similar position at North Texas and assistant coaches Dillon Bryant and Jamie Allred departed to join DeLong at North Texas.

In their lone season in Clarksville, DeLong and his staff led the Governors softball program to a program-record 39 victories.

Austin Peay finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference regular season race and third in the OVC tournament.

The Governors were selected to participate in the National Invitational Softball Championship at season’s end.

“We will conduct a national search to recruit the best individual to lead Austin Peay softball going forward,” said interim athletics director Lisa Varytimidis. “Our softball program is in an incredible position to compete for Ohio Valley Conference titles in the future and we want to find an individual to build on the foundation that has been laid.”
