APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – The final piece of the puzzle for the 2018-19 Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball roster has been found in Jabari McGhee, a 6-7 forward from Albany, Georgia.

McGhee was last at Western Kentucky, where he appeared in 21 games as a redshirt sophomore in 2016-17 after becoming eligible in December following a transfer. In fact, he put in 12 minutes against the Govs in a December 28th contest that season, hitting 3-of-4 from the floor and grabbing four rebounds.

McGhee averaged 13.0 minutes and 4.7 points during his brief tenure with the Hilltoppers before sitting out last season on a medical exemption. Now cleared, Austin Peay head coach Matt Figger is excited to see what McGhee can bring to the Governors.

“He’s a veteran presence with high-major experience,” Figger said. “He’s a high-energy guy, an active rebounder who can play multiple front-court positions. He’s someone we can look to fulfill some of the same things Averyl Ugba did for us last year, he brings that same kind of experience and mentality.”

Prior to his time in Bowling Green, McGhee spent a season-plus in orange at Tennessee, playing 14 games total over parts of three semesters in Knoxville, averaging 4.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and hitting 62.2 percent from the floor in 12.0 minutes per contest.

McGhee prepped at Monroe High School in Albany, tallying more than 1,200 career points and earning all-state honors from the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Georgia Athletics Coaches Association and the Georgia Sportswriters Association as a senior. He then took a prep school season at Hargrave Military Academy, where he averaged nearly 24 points and 15 rebounds to pace the squad to a 32-8 mark.

McGhee marks the sixth and final addition to Austin Peay’s roster for the upcoming season, joining Adams State grad transfer Jarrett Givens, Motlow State product Isaiah Hart and former Eastern Florida State College standout Eli Abaev from the spring and summer slate and Brazilian center Matheus Silveira and Philadelphia guard Antwuan Butler from the fall.
