Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s soccer team finishes its exhibition slate with a pair of road matches this weekend. The Govs travel to Mississippi Valley for a 7:00pm start, Friday, before taking on West Alabama, 12:00pm, Sunday.
Austin Peay is now well into preseason, with a week of training and one exhibition match already under its belt.
The Govs drew 1-1 with Western Kentucky, a game where almost the entire roster saw action.
Jade Dauriat scored for the Govs before WKU struck with only a couple minutes to go, preserving the draw for the Hilltoppers. Goalkeeper Mary Parker Powell was the only Gov to play the full 90 minutes and made a couple athletic saves to deny WKU from adding on to its tally.
The Govs were also picked to qualify for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament in the OVC Preseason Poll, after qualifying for the tourney the past two years.
While Austin Peay has never played West Alabama, the Govs have met Mississippi Valley three times in history, winning all three meetings, including a 3-0 win last season. Two returners, Morgan Drawdy and Pamela Penaloza, scored a goal each in the meeting last season.
Austin Peay officially opens the season with a home match against Middle Tennessee, next Friday, August 17th, 2018.
