City of Clarksville

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will proclaim August as “Kindness is Cool — Back to School Month.”

Mayor McMillan will present the proclamation at 5:30pm on Friday, August 10th, 2018 at Burt-Cobb Recreation Center as part of the Clarksville Kindness Rocks project to promote random acts of kindness using art as a creative way to touch people.

Back to School

After the Kindness is Cool — Back to School Month proclamation is read, students and their families are invited to paint a “kindness heart” made from clay. Participants are encouraged to write a positive note and attach it to their heart and then share with a friend or classmate to brighten their day.

Arts for Hearts, which operates under the umbrella of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council, wants to bring together artists and volunteers to build a connected community engaged in creating, discovering and participating in the arts.

“It’s Cool to be Kind Month”

WHEREAS, Arts for Hearts Clarksville has started the initiative “It’s Cool to Be Kind” to bring the community together with small acts of kindness and generosity as a positive way for children to go back to school; and

WHEREAS, through acts of kindness, we can promote healthy behaviors and positive relationships not just in our schools but in our community and workplace. Spreading kindness and showing the importance of uplifting one another will have a tremendous impact on our children throughout the school year; and

WHEREAS, the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System returns back to school each August and thousands of children have a fresh start with new classmates, teachers and schools to whom they can spread their kindness with; and

WHEREAS, by providing random acts of kindness to one another, regardless of who they are, what they may look like, or what they believe in we extend an opportunity for acceptance, friendship and support that might not otherwise be offered.

Now, Therefore, I, Kim McMillan, Mayor of the City of Clarksville, do hereby proclaim August 2018 as “IT’S COOL TO BE KIND MONTH” and I urge all citizens in the community to take the time to provide kindness to one another.
