APSU Women’s Cross Country gets off to good start at Carbondale Opener

APSU Women's Cross CountryCarbondale, IL – Senior Caroline Kiplagat led the way for Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s cross country at the Carbondale Opener, cracking the top-20 with a time of 20:18.01 to finish 18th.

Junior college transfer Maisie Lay was next to cross the finish line for the Govs, just over a second behind Kiplagat at 20:19.60 to finish 21st.

Trailing Lay was freshman Molly Howard, who made her collegiate debut with a 24th-place, 20:36.72 mark.

Clarksville native and freshman Sarah Martin barely missed the 21-minute barrier; she finished with a time of 21:04.60 to place 30th. Freshman Mikaela Smith also made her debut for the Governors as she crossed the finished line with 21:38.63.

The sophomore trio of Alura Endres, Jada Hale, and Sophia Wilson all crossed the finish line subsequently with the times of 22:01.64, 22:06.17, and 22:34.37.

Freshman Madison Morstad broke the 23-minute mark in her first meet at 22:57.88. Emily Woodward, Keelah Shell, and Larin Harr finished in a row for the Govs, just missing the 23-minute barrier with the times of 23:02.23, 23:25.37, and 23:34.84.

The Governors are set for the University of Alabama-Huntsville for the UAH Chargers Open next Saturday morning.
