APSU Women’s Cross Country shows promise at Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Open

APSU Women's Cross CountryHuntsville, AL – Senior Caroline Kiplagat and the freshman transfer Maisie Lay led the way for the Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s cross country team with two top ten finishes and six Governors with top 25 finishes in the 5k at the UAH Chargers Open.

Kiplagat finished 9th with the time of 20:05.89. Lay finished three seconds later with the time of 20:08.95 (10th).

Freshman Molly Howard cracked the top 15 as she crossed the finish lime with the time of 20:29.38 (14th). Freshman Sarah Martin placed 18th with the time of 20:52.04 for a top 20 finish for the Govs.

Freshman Mikaela Smith finished 22nd with the time of 21:12.15. Sophomore Alura Endres crossed the finish line with the time of 21:31.86 (25th). The trio of Madison Morstad, Keleah Shell, and Larin Harr all crosses the finish line in sequential order with the times of 21:40.90 (28th), 21:42.17 (29th), and 21:50.34 (30th).

Trailing behind the trio was sophomore Jada Hale who placed 32nd with the time of 21:55.41.

The duo of Sophia Wilson and Sarah Woodward tallied 36th and 37th with the times of 22:13.11 and 22:18.83. Freshman Lexie Nicholas ran her first meet for the Govs this Saturday and placed 46th with the time of 23:46.68.

“Everyone that raced [Saturday] and last week improved their times from a week ago which was nice to see,” stated head coach Doug Molnar. Emmaculate Kiplagat did not run in the Chargers Open due to injury. Molnar said, “[Emma] is getting better. We’ll be even stronger when we get Emma back.”

The Governors are set for Memphis in the Rhodes College Invitational this upcoming Saturday.
