APSU Women's TennisClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis team gets its fall tournament season underway by hosting its annual APSU Fall Invitational, Friday and Saturday.

The Govs return five members of the squad that battled all the way to the end against Eastern Kentucky in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Match in the spring.

Tennessee Department of Education Read to be Ready Summer Grant Programs Show Significant Gains in Student Learning

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Candice McQueen has announced the results from the third year of the Read to be Ready Summer Grant Program, which provides funding to educators to lead tuition-free, literacy-focused summer camps for students in need across the state.

For the third year in a row, rising first, second, and third grade students who participated in the program showed gains in their reading comprehension and accuracy skills and increased their motivation to read.

APSU Women's VolleyballHouston, TX – Off to its best start since 2010, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team travels to Texas for its biggest test of the season when it competes in the Rice adidas Invitational, Friday-Saturday, in Houston.

The Governors will face Ole Miss, McNeese and host Rice in the three-match event.

Clarksville Police Lt. Stephen Warren Retires after 21 Years with CPD

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police Lt. Stephen Warren is saying goodbye to law enforcement after 35 years of law service. He spent 21 of those years with the Clarksville Police Department.

Lt. Warren’s many years of service took him to several departments and positions. He started out his law enforcement career working for the University of Tennessee at Martin, changing jobs to take on a one man deep position as Chief of Police in Big Sandy, TN, moved on to be an Investigator with Benton County Sheriff’s Office, then worked as an Investigator with Austin Peay State University, and for the last 21 years has been an officer with the Clarksville Police Department.

Austin Peay State University to have Michelle Obama portrait artist Amy Sherald speak September 27th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art + Design, with support from The APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to welcome internationally known artist, Amy Sherald, to Austin Peay State University.

Known for her stylized portraits of African-Americans, in 2016, Sherald was the first woman to win the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition; an accompanying exhibition, The Outwin 2016, was on tour through August 2018.

AAA says East Coast Motorist can expect Gas Prices to Spike as Hurricane Florence Approaches

AAATampa, FL – On the week, the national gas price average jumped a penny to land at $2.85. Prices remain relatively stable across the country as gasoline demand dipped slightly and gasoline inventories incrementally built according to the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports.

With the switchover to winter-blend gasoline fast approaching (September 15th), gas prices are expected to decline this month.

Clarksville Police quick action leads to Robber arrested in 20 Minutes

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police report a man who walked into a Cash Express, 989 South Riverside Drive, with a double barrel shotgun and demanded money was in-custody within 20 minutes of the robbery.

On Wednesday, September 12th, 2018 around 5:17pm Officer John Matos was on routine patrol and saw a man running from the area of 989 South Riverside Drive carrying a shotgun and entering a maroon SUV.

Bobby Joe Young Jr. was arrested by Clarksville Police and charged in the robbery of Cash Express on Riverside Drive.

The Titans and Texans split their series last season, with each club winning at home. The Titans’ loss at Houston was their lone defeat within the division in 2017.
