Houston, TX – Sophomore Brooke Moore continued to enjoy her stay in Space City, posting 21 kills to lead Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team downed McNeese in four sets (25-18, 25-15, 16-25, 25-17) to stay unbeaten at the Rice adidas® Invitational, Saturday, at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Austin Peay (10-1) took control early in each of the first two sets and went largely unchallenged as it raced out to a 2-0 lead. It was an 11-4 run in the first set that gave the Govs a 15-9 lead.
In the second, APSU pieced together a 13-3 run to take control.
McNeese (1-11) found its stride in the third set, leading the frame in wire-to-wire fashion as they played errorless in attack. Austin Peay responded with a dominant fourth set that they led wire-to-wire to complete the win.
Moore’s 21-kill performance was one kill shy of career high and she added 14 digs for her third straight double-double and fourth this season.
Setter Kristen Stucker also enjoyed a big outing, with a career-high tying seven kills while handing out 46 assists.
Keegan Nelms finished with 11 kills and Katelyn Elliott added 10 kills to lead the Cowgirls.
Austin Peay closes out its stay in Houston with an 11:00am, Saturday, September 15th contest against host Rice.
Set By Set
SET 1, GOVS WIN 25-18
After trading points early, Austin Peay took control with five straight points on junior Ginny Gerig’s serve, Moore supplying two kills. The Governors then added three point bursts with Stucker and Moore at the service line to build a 15-9 lead. McNeese would piece together a 5-1 run, but it was too little too late as the Govs closed with consecutive points, capped by a Moore service ace.
SET 2, GOVS WIN 25–15
The Governors wasted little time taking over the second set, scoring five straight points on Jaymeson Kinley’s serve to take a 7-3 lead. Two more four-point runs with Gerig and Stucker at the line and the Govs were out to a 16-6 lead. Austin Peay would fend off a late five-point McNeese rally by scoring six of the set’s final eight points to claim the win.
McNeese turned the tables in the third, using a pair of 3-0 runs early to build an 8-5 lead. Austin Peay would get within a pair of points after Kristen Stucker reentered the contest, but the Cowgirls quickly put four points on the board to grab a 15-10 lead and never looked back as they did not commit an attacking error in the frame.
SET 4, GOVS WIN 25-17
Austin Peay won the fourth set in wire-to-wire fashion. However, it was a massive 8-0 run behind Ginny Gerig’s serve that proved decisive as they opened up a 16-6 lead. McNeese would try to rally late, scoring six of seven in a late stretch, but again the Govs held on to complete the win.

A Little Moore Action
Moore continued her hot hitting Friday with a 21-kill outing that was a season best and also one kill shy of her career high. She ended the day with 35 kills (4.38/set) and 39 digs (4.88/set) in eight sets played after posting a 15-kill, 24-dig outing against Ole Miss.
Stuck On You
Kristen Stucker also continued with her hot hand in Friday’s action. She posted her second straight 7 kill outing, tying her career high, while handing out 46 assists.
Stucker ended the day with 14 kills and 90 assists (11.25/set).
Return to Sender
Already one of Divison I’s most potent offenses enter the weekend, the Govs strengthened that claim in the two Friday matches. The Govs opened the day with 58 kills against Ole Miss before an impressive 65-kill effort against McNeese. Their 123 kills averaged out to 15.38 kills per frame.
Where No One Stands Along
The Governors defense also held up its end of the bargain on Friday, finishing the day with 139 digs (17.38/set). Moore led that effort with libero Ginny Gerig (4.25 digs per set) and defensive specialist Jaymeson Kinley (3.00 per set) doing their part.
