Austin Peay State University Volleyball travels to Southeast Missouri, UT Martin this weekend

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team opens defense of its 2017 Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title when it opens its 2018 league slate with a 6:30pm, Friday, September 21st contest at Southeast Missouri and an 11:00am, Saturday, September 22nd affair at UT Martin.

Saturday’s contest at UT Martin precedes the Governors football game against the Skyhawks. Fans are invited to join the Governors volleyball team at Skyhawk Fieldhouse for an 11:00am contest that is free to the public.

2018 APSU Volleyball - Brooke MooreThe Govs enter their OVC-opening weekend after playing the third-toughest schedule among league members, according to NCAA Stats. APSU’s first 12 opponents have compiled a .520 win percentage.

Austin Peay leads all OVC teams in kills per set (14.44), attack percentage (.251), assists (13.56) and overall win percentage (.833) after the first four weekends.

Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Moore was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week, Monday, after averaging 3.57 kills per set and hitting .236 in four matches last week. She also averaged 3.57 digs per set.

2018 APSU Volleyball - Kristen StuckerSenior setter Kristen Stucker was the OVC Setter of the Week for the third time this season, Monday.She led the Govs to a .246 team attack percentage while averaging 11.07 assists per set. Stucker also posted a career-high seven kills against both Ole Miss and McNeese.

Junior libero Ginny Gerig jumped into the NCAA’s rankings in service aces this week after posting nine aces in last week’s action. She had four aces against McNeese after a three-ace day against Alabama A&M earlier in the week.

Junior outside hitter Jenna Panning was named to the Rice Invitational all-tourney team, finishing the event with 37 kills and a .397 attack percentage while chipping in three blocks.

Head coach Taylor Mott became the first APSU head coach since 1992 to earn OVC Coach of the Year honors in 2017. She notched her 400th career win and became the second head coach to record 100 wins at APSU during the 2017 season.

The Governors were picked second in the OVC’s preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors. It is the second consecutive season APSU has been picked second in the poll.

However, APSU was the top pick of more than half the voters in that preseason poll. The Govs 14 first-place votes outpaced preseason favorite Murray State’s 10 first-place votes.
