APSU Women's TennisMalibu, CA – After a rough first day, Lidia Yanes Garcia of Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis team rebounded to advance to the quarterfinals of the consolation draw of the Oracle ITA Masters, Friday, September 21st at Pepperdine University.

Yanes Garcia was unable to come up with a win with partner Hendrik Inno of Belmont and then succumbed to Michigan’s Giulia Pairone in the main singles draw.

Yanes Garcia’s opponent today was Maria Siopacha of George Washington University. Yanes Garcia took control of the first set, but Siopacha battled back. Yanes Garcia eventually got a crucial break of serve to win the first set, 7-5.

The rest of the match went unlike the first set, as Siopacha came back strong and easily won the second, 6-1.

Yanes Garcia made sure there was no drama though, as she dismantled Siopacha in the final set, 6-0, to advance to weekend play.

“I’m very pleased and happy for Lidia, she had a great effort today and played a really solid match,” said APSU Governors head coach Ross Brown. “She was able to make adjustments from yesterday and that helped her out a lot. I’m pleased she’s made it to the quarterfinals of consolation draw as well. She can play long, physical points and move her opponents around. Overall, I’m just pleased with the win.”

“I am so excited for my first match win in this tournament and tomorrow could be the second,” said Yanes Garcia. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

Yanes Garcia plays Reka Szentes from Alabama State tomorrow at 11:00am for a spot in the semifinals of the consolation draw.
