Clarksville-Montgomery County School System Latin Students compete at National Junior Classical League convention

Clarksville Montgomery County School System (CMCSS)Montgomery County, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System announces that from July 23rd-27th, about 1,500 Latin students gathered at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for the National Junior Classical League convention.

Students competed in a variety of academic, artistic, and athletic events.

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System students from Rossview High School and Montgomery Central High School attended. Those students who placed in the top 10 in the nation in at least one event are recognized.

In academic testing, students are placed against others in their level of Latin. In graphic arts and athletics, they are ranked against others in their grade level.

Samantha McIntyre received 7th place in 11th Grade Traditional Photography.

Her teacher is Laura Long.

Emily Caldarelli, received the following: 1st – Ancient Geography; 2nd – Roman Life; 5th – Hellenic History, Vocabulary, Academic Heptathlon; 6th – Advanced Grammar, Reading Comprehension: Poetry; 9th – Latin Derivatives, RC: Prose; and 10th – Roman History

Grayson Cobb, received the following: 1st – Roman Life; 2nd – Latin Literature; and 6th – Hellenic History

Zachary Costa, received the following: 2nd – Latin Grammar, Reading Comprehension: Poetry; 4th – Reading Comprehension: Prose, Vocabulary; 7th – Academic Heptathlon

Hannah Dodson, received the following: 1st – Illustrated Quotes; 9th – Hellenic History

Sawyer Griffy, received the following: 8th – 400m, Marathon

Lily Oliver, received the following: 7th – Pen & Ink; and 8th – Hellenic History

Their teacher is Ryan Vinson.

Congratulations to Olivia Voldarski, from Rossview High School, who has been selected as the first CMCSS student to participate in the National Association for Music Education All-Honor Band in November. She will join some of the top student musicians in the country in Orlando, FL. Her music teacher is Brock Cobb.

Rossview High U.S. History and Government teacher Tony Malone has been invited to present his paper, describing the impact of the New Jersey militia during the American Revolution, at the Ohio Valley History Conference in October. This is a great honor for him and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System as he is recognized at this prestigious conference.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation is once again partnering with the Southeastern Conference (SEC) to recognize teachers through the CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers platform this season.

The SEC worked with its 14 institutions to identify student-athletes who have had a teacher that greatly impacted his or her life. Each of the educators will be honored through a testimonial by the respective student-athlete which will air on SEC Nation, the SEC Network’s traveling pregame show, during the college football regular season.

The student-athlete video tributes will also be featured weekly on social media and SECNetwork.com.

Clarksville High School science teacher Melissa Nolan was chosen by CHS graduate Salera Jordan, who is now on the Women’s Soccer team at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville. Mrs. Nolan teaches biology, anatomy and AP environmental.

In addition to the honor of being selected and spotlighted, Mrs. Nolan will receive a $10,000 grant from the CFP Foundation and SEC to use towards the purchase of classroom supplies and materials at CHS.
