2018 APSU Volleyball - Ginny Gerig

The Towanda, Illinois native averaged 6.14 digs per set during the week, while posting her second and third 20-plus dig outings of the 2018 campaign. She led an impressive defensive showing by the Govs that saw them average 21.86 digs per set and hold opponents to a .177 attack percentage.

Gerig opened her weekend with a stellar 10-dig first-set performance at Southeast Missouri. She would ultimately finish that three-set victory with 23 digs (7.67 per set) while the Govs limited the Redhawks to a .168 attack percentage. Gerig also had three assists in that contest.

The next day she posted 20 digs (5.00 per set) in the Govs four-set victory at UT Martin. She also stayed busy with five assists and three service aces in the win.

It is the second time Gerig has been named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, joining last season’s September 4th honor. It is the eighth weekly honor for a Governors athlete this fall; with one Governor being listed among the league’s award winners in four of the season’s first five weeks.

Austin Peay State University returns to action when it opens a four-match homestand at 6:00pm, Tuesday, September 24th against Murray State – the OVC preseason favorite. The contest also is the kickoff to the 2018-19 Heritage Bank Battle of the Border.
