APSU Men's TennisLouisville, KY – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s tennis team got off to a great start at the Louisville Invitational, Friday, at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Almantas Ozelis bounced back from an unlucky showing last weekend to defeat two players in Flight A Singles to advance to the semifinals.

Ozelis came back from a set down against Brett Winters of Xavier to win in three sets and then took down Middle Tennessee’s Luis Morillo in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

The other Governor alive in the singles main draw is Hunter Sanders, finally making his debut as a Gov. Sanders won his first round match in Flight D Singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) over Bellarmine’s Joe Naville.

Freshman Oliver Andersson also claimed his first win as a Gov, defeating MTSU’s Daniel Stormon in an epic five-set thriller, 7-6, 5-7, 7-6. Andersson later fell in his quarterfinal match, however.

Ozelis stayed perfect on the day by teaming with Anton Damberg in Flight A Doubles. The duo defeated Belmont’s Jake Briggs and Grant Kelly, 6-4, to advance to the semifinals.

Jacob Lorino, the standout performer last week for the Govs, teamed with Timo Kiesslich once again to advance to the semifinals in Flight C Doubles.

Sanders also capped off his successful debut day as a Gov, as he and Chad Woodham defeated Bellarmine’s LJ Allara and Naville, 8-3, in Flight D Doubles.
