Nashville Predators blow two goal lead to lose to San Jose Sharks 5-4

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators blew a two goal lead in the third period to fall to the visiting San Jose Sharks, 5-4.

The Predators were on a five game winning streak until tonight, and dropped only their second game to the Sharks in their last 11 meetings in Tennessee.

San Jose struck first on a power play goal in the first period, but Viktor Arvidsson evened the score on a breakaway goal to end the first period.

Filip Forsberg gave the Preds the lead just 21 seconds into the second period and it was 2-1 Nashville.

The Sharks then tied the game at 2-2, then Arvidsson gave the Predators a 3-2 lead on a brilliant shift with Forsberg and Ryan Johansen.

San Jose picked up the attack but could only strike iron, when Craig Smith scored on an assist from Arvidsson for the 4-2 advantage.

Nashville went into the third period with the two goal advantage and went on the attack, but couldn’t score, then the Sharks dominated the final frame scoring three straight to seal the deal for the visitors.

Frustration was the order of the post game press conference as head coach Peter Laviolette pointed out that his team didn’t take care of the game and “shot themselves in the foot.”

This was only the second loss in nine games for Nashville as they get set for a Saturday matinee against the New Jersey Devils.

Game time is 2:00pm at Bridgestone Arena.
