Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Often times, you hear someone say, “I got your back” or “If you are ever in need”… Many times, it turns out to be a hollow offer and when it comes down to crunch time, there is no one there to follow through. The Clarksville Police Department, Fire Dispatchers and E-911 folks truly showed what it means to be supportive of a coworker.

It was for one of the newest additions to the dispatch cadre. Elizabeth “Ellie” Horton joined the Clarksville Police and Fire Dispatchers, March 2018.

She quickly earned her bones by her work ethic, positive attitude, big heart and a contagious smile.

However, Ellie received some daunting news shortly after starting with the Clarksville Police and Fire Dispatchers . She found out that the cancer she had beaten once had returned for a second bout.

She didn’t skip a beat and continued to excel in her training and proved to be an inspiration to those around her.

Her coworkers quickly realized that Ellie would not have sufficient sick time or time off to cover her during the critically needed surgery, thus creating a financial burden.

They rallied together and began a fundraising campaign to raise funds to help offset the expenses as Ellie fought her battle against cancer. They created t-shirts to sell with the logo “NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE” #STANDSTRONGELLIE.

There were also many people locally an across the country who sent in donations to support the fundraising effort. All of the proceeds collected will be used to help support Ellie and her family.

On October 29th, 2018 Ellie was presented with a check for $2003. But, more importantly, she knows there is a team, in place, to help lift her up when she feels down or stumbles.

Thank you to the many people that stepped up to join Ellie in her battle against cancer.
