The show, titled Her Home Tennessee, offers visitors a chance to see unique versions of the state’s many symbols. Included in the show’s thirty paintings are animals appearing to burst through paper and up-close vividly hued flowers; as well as, more traditionally painted birds in uncluttered blue backgrounds.

Engel is amazed and fascinated with color and texture, seeking to capture the richness of life. “For me,” Engel explains, “every morning is a fresh opportunity to find extraordinary joy in the most ordinary things.

My art overflows out of that joy.” Camille has dedicated 2-1/2 years toward research and reference for the artwork, spending another 18 months to create the paintings presented. Also on exhibition are the winners of the “My Tennessee Home” Student Art Competition, grades 1-12.

Juried by a panel of the Nashville Artist Guild, thirteen works were selected to exhibit with Camille’s show to the museum. The winning artworks were professionally framed by Jerry’s Artarama and scanned by Chromatics, Nashville, Tennessee.

Considering herself to be a self-taught artist, Engel works in the “indirect layering” technique of the Dutch Masters to create her paintings. Her oil paintings are accepted into prestigious many juried museum tours and art exhibitions from Santa Fe to New York City winning numerous awards along the way.

She was named one of our nation’s “Artist to Watch” by Southwest Art magazine 2014 and Fine Art Connoisseur magazine 2010.

Camille’s work has been featured in several publications, including Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, The Artist’s Magazine, American Artist and International Artist.

Visitors to the Museum on Free Saturday, November 10th, can meet Camille Engel and hear her discuss her work from 10:30am-noon.

This Meet the Artist program is part of the ART 4 US project funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
