APSU Men's BasketballMontego Bay, Jamaica – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball team will once again lace ’em up from paradise when the Govs face Campbell to close out the island portion of the 2018 Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic in Montego Bay.

Austin Peay survived a scare in Friday’s contest against Central Connecticut; despite missing 10 of their first 11 shots and being down to only eight scholarship players, the APSU Govs were able to rally to hold on for an 80-78 win in the Montego Bay Convention Center.

The contest against the Fighting Camels will be the last one down on the island; the Govs close out the Jamaica Classic, November 24th, at Ohio.

2018 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Terry Taylor has certainly avoided a sophomore slump so far; The Bowling Green native has three double-doubles in his first four outings in the 2018-19 campaign, including a 21-point, 17-rebound performance against Central Connecticut on Friday.

About the Campbell Fighting Camels

Campbell will go as Chris Clemons goes; the NCAA’s second-leading scorer at 31.0 points per game is already the Fighting Camels all-time leading scorer (2,356 points) and second in Big South history. He poured in 44 points in Campbell’s season-opener against UNC Wilmington and has been rolling along ever since.

Clemons gets to the line, leading the nation in free-throws made (41) and attempted (50). Getting to the line is a hallmark of the Fighting Camels’ oeuvre, as is three-point shooting; Campbell has made at least one three in 186 consecutive games and ranked 29th nationally a year ago in percentage (38.8 percent) and 2nd in the Big South in makes per game (9.2).

Last Time Out Against Campbell

This is Austin Peay’s first meeting with the Fighting Camels, who they will also square off against in December’s St. Pete Shootout. Historically, APSU is 4-7 all-time against the Big South, 3-4 since 2010, and last faced a Big South team last year in UNC Asheville, who defeated the Govs in overtime.

Keep An Eye On

A win would be Austin Peay State University’s first against a Big South school since 2013.

A loss would be Austin Peay State University’s first in a regular-season neutral-site tournament game since 2015.

A win would guarantee the Govs at least a .500 showing in an in-season tournament for just the second time since 2010.

Through injury and other concerns, the Govs are down to nine players on the active roster—eight scholarship players and walk-on Jashaun Garrison.

Senior Zach Glotta has hit 12 straight free-throws dating back to last season.

Taylor is averaging 12.6 rebounds in his last eight starts.
