Clarksville, TN | Dunn Center
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball team hosts Northern Kentucky, 7:00pm, Monday, November 26th at the Winfield Dunn Center.
The Governors (2-3) are coming off a home loss to Mississippi Valley State, where they down 20 in the fourth before almost rallying for an improbable win.
While it was a game to forget as a team for the Govs, it was certainly one to remember for Arielle Gonzalez-Varner.
The junior post player dominated the entire game, finishing with 32 points and 23 rebounds on 14-of-23 shooting from the field. Both were career highs and the 23 rebounds were a new school record.
Gonzalez-Varner is also the first player to have a known game with at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in program history.
Through games finished on Saturday, Gonzalez-Varner was ranked tied for fifteenth with 12.6 rebounds per game and led the entire country in total offensive rebounds (35) and offensive rebounds per game (7.0). As a team, the Governors are still second in the country in three-pointers made (54) and are inside the top ten in three-pointers made per game (10.8).
About Northern Kentucky Norse
The Norse (1-3) opened their season with a win, but have lost their last three contests. The Norse have a very balanced offense, with their top five scorers ranging from 6.5 to 9.5 points per game. The Norse rebound the ball very well and have a rebounding margin of +7.5 per game, which means Gonzalez-Varner and company must continue to get an edge on the boards.
The meeting between the two schools is the first all-time meeting as well.
