In the past, the area has sparked works of art by hero’s, Montana writer Norman McClean, Texas photographer Wyman Meinzer and New Mexico painter Georgia O’Keefe. Edward’s Steakhouse (107 Franklin Street)

Artist Information

Edward’s Steakhouse is proud host local artist, Terri Jordan, during the December 2018 First Thursday Art Walk.

While I don’t like to tell the viewer what to take in from my work, subtle symbols are used with every canvas story. I tend to work in suites, or series. The idea usually comes from a voyeuristic moment, personal experience, or my curiosities in how societies repeat or mimic each other (often) unknowingly.

I don’t exhibit my work as self-portraits; however, they are based in the concept of capturing not just the world around me, but also within me. They are a diary by what it is like to be a woman in contemporary culture and my interests in where we have come from – the cultural traditions that continue and morph over time.”

My work has exhibited in group and solo shows in New York, the West coast, and throughout the Southeast. It is included in private and corporate collections throughout the Southeast, New York, England and Italy. In 2015 I was named in the Top Ten Portrait/figurative artists of Tennessee by the Portrait Society of America in a juried process.

In 2012, I was one of twenty-five women artists selected to participate in the National juried exhibit, titled “Where Do We Go from Here? The Shape of Things to Come,” at the RCC Wiseman Gallery in Grants Pass, Oregon. I have won numerous awards for my paintings.

The Agora Gallery in New York City has said of my work “Terri’s paintings contain the best qualities of both figurative and still life painting,” adding, “Much like Matisse’s women, Jordan’s figures are symbolic statements of serenity, beauty, and ornament. More restful than Matisse’s women, however, Jordan explores a more understated realm of existence and privacy.”

Stop in, see the art, listen to Jackson Miller on the piano and enjoy the Thursday night special, 1/2 priced $7.00 appetizers and 2 for 1 draft drink specials.
