Austin Peay State University Military and Veteran Recognition Ceremony guest speaker to be Navy Master Chief Mamudu Cole

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Force Master Chief Mamudu K. Cole, the highest-ranking noncommissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Education and Training Command and Austin Peay State University alumnus, will be the guest speaker at Austin Peay’s Winter 2018 Military and Veteran Recognition Ceremony next week.

The ceremony, set for 5:30pm on Wednesday, December 12th, 2018 in the Morgan University Center Ballroom, honors Austin Peay’s graduating students who are veterans, reservists or active-duty military personnel.

As part of the ceremony, each student will receive a red, white and blue graduation cord and one of the University’s special military coins.

Austin Peay is Tennessee’s largest provider of higher education to military-affiliated students, with more than 2,650 enrolled students having a military connection in the fall of 2018. In 2011, the University created a military coin to honor those individuals.

Cole, a native of Freetown, Sierra Leone, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1990. While in the service, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Austin Peay, a Master of Health Care from Webster University and a doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Northcentral University.

He is also a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Capstone Course, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and the National Defense University Keystone Course. He is designated a Master Training Specialist and is a specialist in aviation, surface and Fleet Marine Force warfare.

Cole assumed his current assignment as the Naval Education and Training Command force master chief in March 2016. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eight awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
