Nashville Predators fall to Calgary Flames 5-2

Nashville PredatorsCalgary Alberta, Canada – The Nashville Predators fell to the Calgary Flames tonight, losing both games on this road trip, 5-2.  After fighting back from deficits throughout the night, the Flames finally put the game away for the win.

Nashville started the game with Juuse Saros in net, replacing Pekka Rinne who had the night off.  Saros got off to a shaky start giving up the first goal of the game just 1:12 into the contest.  Oliver Kylington put Calgary on the board with a snap shot that beat Saros for the early 1-0 lead.

Nashville drew even at 19:07 of the first period when Colton Sissons tipped in a pass from Roman Josi and the Predators tied the score at 1-1.

Both teams went back and forth for most of the second period until the 16:40 mark, when Sean Monahan put the Flames back in front on a backhand shot that beat Saros over the shoulder for the Calgary 2-1 lead.

Once again though, Nashville fought back to draw even with Calgary, just 54 seconds into the final period, when Craig Smith’s wrister beat goalie Mike Smith, and the game was tied, 2-2.  Smith put on an exhibition on opening night in Nashville, stopping 43 shots for the Calgary win in Smashville.

The tide started to turn early in the final frame when Garnet Hathaway gave Calgary the lead once again, beating Saros on a deflected shot on goal from Matthew Tkachuk and the Flames took the 3-2 lead, at 6:03 of the third.

Calgary would score once again at 12:12 of the third period on Alan Quine’s backhanded goal on a pass from Rasmus Anderson, and the Flames had a two goal cushion, 4-2.

The final score of the game would come on an empty netter by Elias Lindholm, and the Calgary Flames would get the victory and the two points on a final score of 5-2.

Nashville outshot the Flames 27-25.

The Predators are still missing several of their front line players to injuries.  P.K Subban, Kyle Turris, Viktor Arvidsson are all missing in action while they recover from injury.

Nashville will lick its wounds and return to the friendly confines of Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday night when the Ottawa Senators will be in Nashville for a 7pm matchup.
