APSU Football’s Kentel Williams named Associated Press Third-Team All-American

APSU FootballNew York, NY – Austin Peay State University (APSU) running back Kentel Williams has been named Third-Team All-America as an all-purpose player by the Associated Press. It was announced Tuesday, December 11th, 2018.

Williams led the Ohio Valley Conference and finished third in the country, averaging 167.78 all-purpose yards per game. The junior’s 7.99 yards per carry led the FBS in yards per rush, and was the second-highest mark in APSU history.

The Knoxville Tennessee native led the Governors in rushing after racking up 831 yards and seven touchdowns on 104 carries. He caught 17 passes for 127 yards and a score, and he led the Govs in kickoff return yards with 547 yards on 24 returns. His 1,510 all-purpose yards is the sixth-highest total in program history.

In his first game of the season, Williams totaled 181 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries against Morehead State. He also caught a nine-yard touchdown pass to finish the game with a career-high four touchdowns scored.

It is the first All-America recognition of Williams’ career, and he is the second Gov in as many seasons to earn All-America honors, joining defensive end Jaison Williams who was named to the AP’s second team and STATS FCS third team for his performance in 2017. Kentel Williams earned First-Team All-OVC recognition as a running back after the 2018 campaign.
