Nashville Predators defeat the Vancouver Canucks in overtime thriller 4-3

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators almost let this one get away, but in the end, Colton Sissons was able to score the game winner in overtime for the 4-3 Nashville win over the Vancouver Canucks.

It was a bit of sweet revenge for the Predators after the beatdown they suffered in Vancouver last week.

Nashville is still working their way through the injury bug with Viktor Arvidsson and P.K Subban still unavailable.  The Predators did get Kyle Turris back in the lineup tonight for the win, and that meant Eeli Tolvanen was sent down to Milwaukee this morning.

Ryan Hartman put Nashville on the board at 5:52 of the opening period with a wrist shot that beat Vancouver goalie, Anders Nilsson, for the early 1-0 lead.  Hartman has been a scoring presence of late, spending a lot of time playing on the first line.  Harman was assisted on the goal by Dan Hamhuis.

Nick Bonino would give the Predators a 2-0 lead at 8:40 of the first period on a wicked shot that went “top shelf” on Nilsson, and Nashville was off and running.  Bonino took a sweet pass from Colton Sissons for the score.

Vancouver would take advantage of some sloppy play by the Preds at 15:15 of the first period, when Jay Beagle slipped a nifty backhand over the shoulder of Pekka Rinne, and suddenly we had a one goal game, 2-1.

In the second period, Nashville would look to extend their lead, when Calle Jarnkrok was able to tip the puck into the net off of a Kyle Turris shot on net.  The Predators now led 3-1, and looked to be in control of the contest.

Some questionable calls in the third period put the Predators at a disadvantage and the Canucks jumped on the opportunity.  At 15:55 of the final frame, Brock Boeser scored his first goal as a Canuck, with the one-timer past Rinne, and Vancouver had made it a one goal game, again.

Then with just under two minutes remaining in the contest, Vancouver swarmed the net, and Bo Horvat slipped a backhanded shot off of a Pekka Rinne rebound for the shorthanded game tying goal, and at 19:16 of the period, the game was tied 3-3.

The Smashville crowd was now a bit nervous as the two teams went into the overtime period, anxious that their Predators might let this one slip away.  This was the first overtime game at home for Nashville this year.

The OT began with four on four due to a penalty left over from regulation.  At the first stoppage of play, the teams went back to the three on three format to finish the game.  Just as play by play color commentator Chris Mason predicted that this game would NOT go to a shootout, Colton Sissons produced the game winner.

Sissons took a beautiful pass from Nick Bonino at 3:05 of the extra period to convert the game winner past Nilsson, and the Predators had the victory, 4-3.

Nashville will play their last home game before the Christmas break on Saturday night when the New Jersey Devils come to town.  Puck drops at 7:00pm at the Bridgestone Arena.
