Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office says Candle Fires Caused $13M in Damages, Claimed Eight Lives since 2013

Nashville, TN – Decorations can help turn every Scrooge into a Santa, but care must be taken to ensure that a home’s décor is fire safe. To decrease the risk of a home fire, the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) reminds consumers that popular holiday decorations, like candles and string lights, can cause tragedy when not used properly.
During the five-year period of 2013-2017 in Tennessee, candles were reported to have caused 385 residential structure fires, eight civilian deaths, 28 civilian injuries, six firefighter injuries and $13 million in fire loss, according to SFMO data.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
Clarksville, TN – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office raised $4,742 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during their No-Shave November Campaign.
No-Shave November is a non-profit organization devoted to growing cancer awareness and raising funds to support cancer prevention, research, and education.
Deputies were able to participate in No-Shave November by making a $30.00 donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Tennessee Vols (7-1) at Memphis Tigers (5-4)

Memphis, TN – For the first time since 2013, Tennessee Vols Basketball and the Memphis Tigers will face off on the hardwood Saturday, December 15th as part of a three-game series between the in-state foes.

To fight impaired driving, CTS buses will provide free safe rides home for anyone who may have celebrated too much.
Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT)
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reports that in Montgomery County there will be concrete repair on I-24 at MM 0.2 the weekend of December 14th, 2018.
The traffic will be shifted at the Welcome Center for concrete ramp and pavement repairs. The right lane on I-24 eastbound will be closed until the concrete is placed. Work will take approximately 12 hours, timing will depend on weather.

Dallas, TX – Full marathons may significantly raise concentrations of several biomarkers of strain on the heart, according to new research in Circulation, Journal of the American Heart Association.
Investigators in Spain compared levels of cardiac biomarkers, including – troponin I and troponin T- in 21 groups of 3 runners each after each individually ran an endurance race of three different lengths – a full marathon, a half marathon and a 10K race.
