The Govs are not the only league team looking to get an edge by competing at the Birmingham CrossPlex ahead of the February 20th Indoor Championships—the first-ever neutral-site OVC Indoor Championships.

Jacksonville State, Tennessee State and UT Martin also will represent the OVC at this weekend’s event, and will be joined by student-athletes from FIU, Florida Atlantic, Jackson State, Jacksonville, LSU, Mercer, Miami, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Savannah State and host UAB, with a host non-Division I schools in the mix as well.

When the Govs visited the Birmingham CrossPlex last season, senior pole vaulter Savannah Amato carved off another slice of Austin Peay history, setting the school indoor pole vault record at 4.15m. She enters this weekend as the reigning OVC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and back-to-back wins at the Saluki Fast Start and last week’s Ed Temple Classic.

Sophomore Sabrina Richman is “fast” becoming one of the best sprinters in the area, especially after rocketing to the top of the national rankings after a blistering 55.41 400m run in Nashville. She’ll be at it again in the 400m this week, as well junior Amelia Thiesing, who also sits in the nation’s top-50.

After a win in the 55m dash last week at the Ed Temple Classic, junior Tymeitha Tolbert will be back this week in the 200m. Seniors Nia Gibbs-Francis and Emmaculate Kiplagat look to reprise their victories from last week in the high jump and 3000m run, respectively.
