Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Internationally renowned brass group the Gomalan Brass Quintet is making its first tour stop of 2019 – and its first and only scheduled stop in America – at Austin Peay State University (APSU).

The group’s five musicians also will be in residence as the Acuff Chair of Excellence, working with brass players from throughout the region on January 25th and 26th, during Austin Peay State University’s inaugural Smash Bang Brass Bash.

Gomalan Brass Quintet is known for its live shows, which are virtuosic, encompass all music genres – from classical and jazz to movie scores – and entertain all age groups.

“The theatrical wit of their annually renewed performances has seduced both audiences and critics worldwide,” said Zubin Mehta, music director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor emeritus of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

The group’s most popular performance is a medley honoring Italian great, composer Ennio Morricone.

You’ve heard Morricone’s work in famous westerns such as “A Fistful of Dollars” and “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly,” one of the most influential film tracks in history (you’re whistling it now).

The Austin Peay concert – presented by the Clarksville Community Concert Association in collaboration with the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts – is titled “Made in Italy” and will feature music ranging from Giovanni Gabrieli to Puccini (and his operatic favorite “Nessun Dorma”).

The quintet also will perform Morricone, so get your whistlers ready.
