Clarksville Police Officer Steven Deering Receives Lifesaver Award

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On Friday, January 18th, 2019 Clarksville Police Officer Steven Deering was recognized for his actions during an emergency situation and was presented with a Lifesaver Award. The Lifesaver award is given to officers whose direct actions saves or extends the life of another person.

On November 17th, 2018, around 10:00pm, CPD Officer Steven Deering responded to 911 call where a woman had shot her boyfriend in the leg.

He arrived on scene and discovered a male unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his left thigh.

He immediately cut away the victim’s clothing, determined the wound was an arterial bleed, and applied a tourniquet.

Emergency personnel arrived and the victim was transported by Life Flight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he underwent surgery to repair the lacerated artery. An EMS supervisor estimated the victim had approximately 90 seconds before he would have bled out and Officer Deering’s actions prevented this from happening.

The actions of Officer Deering brought great credit upon himself, the Clarksville Police Department, and the City of Clarksville.
