Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans elevated Arthur Smith to Offensive Coordinator from his previous role coaching tight ends.

Smith has been on the Titans coaching staff for eight years (2011-18), earning the trust of four different head coaches. Overall, he has 12 years of coaching experience with 10 of those coming at the NFL level.

“I am excited for Arthur and for our team to be able to elevate a deserving coach,” said Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. “I was impressed throughout the season in game plan meetings with his ideas, in-game with his understanding of situations and the ability to get the most out of his position group.”

“We spent a good bit of time last week talking about this opportunity. He has a great deal of familiarity with our players and the continuity of the offense will allow our players to continue to develop and improve,” Vrabel stated.

Smith originally joined the Titans coaching staff in 2011, working as a defensive quality control coach. He moved over to the offensive side of the ball the next season as a quality control coach. In 2013, Smith assisted with the offensive line and tight groups and in 2014-15, he became assistant tight ends coach. When Mike Mularkey was elevated to interim head coach in the middle of the 2015 season, Smith took over the tight end group. He held that position through last season.

Working with the tight ends for the Titans, Smith has guided the group to new heights, led by Delanie Walker. From 2014-17, Walker produced the top four single-season receiving yardage totals in franchise history among tight ends. His 3,585 receiving yards ranked third in the NFL during that time period and reception total (307) ranked second. With Walker’s injury in the first game of the 2018 season, the group of young tight ends still posted 67 receptions, 750 yards and seven touchdowns.

Prior to joining the Titans, Smith spent one season (2010) at the University of Mississippi as an Administrative Assistant/Defensive Intern. He also spent two years (2007-08) with the Washington Redskins as defensive quality control coach and one season (2006) as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, the University of North Carolina.

Smith was an offensive lineman at the University of North Carolina. Born and raised in Memphis, Smith and his wife, Allison, have a son, Tanner and a daughter, Sophie.
