ā€œIt is a space, an idea, that delights in collaboration and experimentation, and a great example for our students to see the possibilities of what can happen when you collaborate with peers and let the creative process unfold. ZoĆ« and Tim are two successful artists in their own right, being generous with their resources and sharing with other artists,ā€ stated Dickins.

According to Charlton and Doud, ā€œ|ā€™sindikit|, as a collaborative pursuit, combines our mutual interests in facilitating creative engagements, mining our shared resources and sharing our enthusiasms about how artists think and what they do. |ā€™sindikit| is a self-funded, non-commercial venture.ā€

Charlton creates drawings that explore the ironies of contemporary social and cultural stereotypes. She depicts her subjectā€™s relationship with their world by combining images of culturally loaded objects and landscapes with undressed bodies. She received her M.F.A. from the University of Texas.

Her work has been included in national and international exhibitions including The Delaware Contemporary, the Harvey B. Gantt Center in North Carolina, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Studio Museum of Harlem, Contemporary Art Museum in Texas, the Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Poland and Haas & Fischer Gallery in Switzerland.

She is a recipient of a Pollock-Krasner grant and Rubys grant, and was a finalist for the 2015 Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize. She received nominations in 2014 for both the Anonymous Was a Woman and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award.

Doudā€™s paintings and drawings address two seemingly distinct bodies of work, one figurative and one abstract. These bodies of work serve as a backdrop to broader discussions around constructed identities, branding and commodity culture.

He graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an M.F.A in painting and drawing. He attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine.

His work has been included in exhibitions at PS1 (MOMA) in New York City, The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Artists Space in New York City, the Frye Art Gallery in Seattle, Art Basel in Switzerland, Galerie Brusberg in Berlin and MC Magma in Milan, Italy.

He has received grants from The National Endowment for the Arts (Arts Midwest), The Pollock Krasner Art Foundation, DC Commission for the Arts and Humanities, and he has participated in residencies at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, the Marie Sharpe Foundation’s “Space” Program in Brooklyn and the Golden Foundation.

Charlton and Doud both teach in the Department of Art at American University in Washington, D.C. Doud is a professor of art, and Charlton is an associate professor and department chair.

For their lecture, Charlton and Doud will each talk briefly about their individual work, then they will talk about their collaborative project, |ā€™sindikit|. For more on Charlton, visit: www.zoecharlton.com. For more on Doud, visit: www.timdoud.net
