Tennessee Lady Vols get 73-62 win over Auburn

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Freshman guard Zaay Green logged 19 of her career-high 25 points in the second half, powering Tennessee past Auburn, 73-62, at Thompson-Boling Arena on Thursday night.

The triumph gave UT a season sweep of the Tigers (18-7, 6-6 SEC). The Big Orange (16-8, 5-6 SEC) had won at AU in the SEC opener back on January 3rd, 78-69.
 
The Lady Vols recorded their third-straight home win, as the duo of senior Cheridene Green (16 points and 11 rebounds) and sophomore Rennia Davis (15 points and 10 rebounds) each tallied double-doubles on the evening. Sophomore Evina Westbrook, meanwhile, dished out 10 assists and added nine points and five rebounds in the victory.

Nashville Predators snap losing streak with win over the Montreal Canadiens 3-1

 

Nashville PredatorsNashville, TN – The Nashville Predators finally righted the ship with a 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens tonight at Bridgestone Arena. 

Newly acquired big man Brian Boyle scored his first goal as a Predator and Viktor Arvidsson added to his torrid scoring streak for the victory. 

Arvidsson scored his 24th goal of the season tonight, a remarkable feat considering he was injured and didn’t return to the lineup until New Years Eve. Nashville wrapped up a three game home stand and snapped a three game losing streak tonight with the win.

APSU Women's BasketballMorehead, KY – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball team erupted from beyond the arc in the first half, winning on the road against Morehead State, 84-75, Thursday, at Ellis Johnson Arena.

The Governors (12-12, 7-6 OVC) earned a crucial win behind nine first-half three-pointers to earn sole possession of fifth place in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Tennessee Needs at Least $49.8 Billion of Public Infrastructure Improvements

Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations - TACIRNashville, TN – Tennessee needs at least $49.8 billion of public infrastructure improvements during the five-year period of July 2017 to June 2022—a $5 billion (11.1%) increase from the year before—according to a new report by the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR).  

Improvements needed for Transportation and Utilities, Education, and Health, Safety, and Welfare infrastructure continue to account for most of the inventory, with Education and Transportation and Utilities infrastructure needs responsible for most of the reported increase this year. 

More than two-thirds of the estimated cost of needed infrastructure improvements included in this year’s report is not funded, unchanged from last year.

The Governors (6-0) decimated Cumberland and Central Arkansas to stay unbeaten, only dropping one singles match over the span of two full matches.

AAA says Winter Weather Continues to Knock Down Gas Demand

AAATampa, FL – AAA reports that frigid winter weather has played a critical role in keeping pump prices low this winter due to relatively low demand for gasoline.

For two weeks, demand numbers have been decreasing. The latest Energy Information Administration data reveals that gas demand fell by approximately 425,000 b/d from the previous week to 8.6 million b/d.
