APSU Softball finishes road trip at Ole Miss

APSU SoftballOxford, MS – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team will end its six-game spring-break road trip, 4:00pm, Wednesday, March 6th at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, as the Govs face Southeastern Conference opponent Ole Miss.

The game also marks the end of the Governors (11-9) season-opening run of 21 games away from Clarksville to begin the 2019 season.

The matchup for the Govs is the first against a Southeastern Conference opponent since they faced Ole Miss at the Red and Blue Classic in 2017.

After the season’s first 20 games, the Govs offense is led by current Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Danielle Liermann, who is hitting at a .375 clip, with two doubles, eight home runs and 20 RBIs.

She is followed by a trio of teammates also hitting .300-or-better, led by Kelsey Gross (.364, 1 HR, 7 RBI), Carly Mattson (.343, 5 HR, 18 RBI) and Kacy Acree (.319, 4 HR, 15 RBI).

In the circle, Morgan Rackel has been the workhorse of the Govs staff posting a 7-5 overall record with a 3.01 ERA in 76.2 innings of work, while striking out 86.

Kelly Mardones follows at 3-3, with a 4.09 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 39.11 innings pitched, while Gross rounds out the staff with a 1-1 record – with two saves — a 2.67 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 21 innings.

Ole Miss is led offensively by speedster Kylan Becker, who is batting .448, with 11 stolen bases, followed by Jessica Puk (.370, 4 HR, 13 RBI) and Abbey Latham (.352, 4 HR, 16 RBI).

The Ole Miss pitching staff has three players with at least three wins this season, led by Molly Jacobsen’s 5-1 mark, with 1.01 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 41.2 innings pitched.

APSU Govs Hit and Run

Danielle Liermann is ranked seventh nationally for most home runs (8) in Division I.

Morgan Rackel needs 10 strikeouts to become the fifth pitcher in APSU history to record 300-career strikeouts.

Kacy Acree needs to score one run to pass Leigh Pettyjohn for second-place all-time in career runs scored (113).

The 21 road games to open the season is the longest such streak in program history.

The Govs are 0-2 all-time versus Ole Miss.
