Oxford, OH – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team’s Morgan Rackel hurled her fourth shutout of the season, Saturday at the Miami Invitational, while Danielle Liermann became the program’s all-time leader in doubles and total extra-base hits, as the Govs defeated Dayton, 6-0, before falling late to Miami, 6-2, in the night cap.
Austin Peay 6, Dayton 0
Austin Peay would score its first run of the game in the top of the second, coming on a double to left field by Drew Dudley, scoring Lexi Osowski who had opened the inning with a single.
That would be all the scoring that Rackel would need, as she limited Dayton to five hits and one walk, while striking out seven in picking up her fourth shutout of the season and the 11th of her career.
Danielle Liermann would double the Govs lead to 2-0 with a solo home run to open the third inning – her third home run of the weekend and Ohio Valley Conference leading 11th of the season.
The score would remain that way until the top of the fifth inning, when the Govs would break the game open by scoring four runs, highlighted by a two-run homer by Brooke Pfefferle, with Rackel and Osowski driving in the other two runs that inning.
Liermann would also double in that fifth inning, the 40th double of her career, the most in program history by a Govs player.
Miami 6, Austin Peay 2
The Govs got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI ground out by Kelsey Gross that scored Kacy Acree, followed by an RBI single from Rackel that drove in Bailey Shorter, but that would be all the runs the Govs would score versus the RedHawks.
Miami wouldn’t get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning but scored six runs over their last three at bats to come away with the win.
