APSU BaseballCape Girardeau, MO – Catcher David Martinez and right fielder Parker Phillips each had two home runs as the Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball team used a big second inning to post a 10-2 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Southeast Missouri, Sunday, at Capaha Field.

AAA says National Gas Price rises Seven Cents

AAATampa, FL – AAA says that at $2.54, the national gas price average is 7 cents more expensive on the week and 23-cents more than last month. However, today’s price is just as expensive as the same day a year ago.

In fact, for the first time since the end of November last year, the national gas price average the past four days was identical or a penny more expensive year-over-year.

Nashville Sounds beat Texas Rangers 4-3 at First Tennessee Park, Sunday

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds edged the Texas Rangers, 4-3, in front of a record-breaking crowd of 11,824 at First Tennessee Park Sunday afternoon. It was the first Major League exhibition game in Nashville since June 3rd, 1999.

Outfielder Preston Beck provided the difference when he gave the Sounds a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when he belted a two-run homer into The Band Box off Texas reliever Shawn Kelley.

Taylor Hearn got the starting nod for Nashville and cruised through five innings after a 44-minute rain delay prior to first pitch. Hearn’s lone hiccup came in the first when Texas plated a run on Hunter Pence’s sacrifice fly. The southpaw went five innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits. He walked two and struck out seven.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsColumbus, OH – For eighth time in program history, the Tennessee Vols are heading to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, following an 83-77 victory in overtime against Iowa at Nationwide Arena on Sunday.
 
It’s the first time since 2014 that the Tennessee Vols have reached the Sweet Sixteen, and head coach Rick Barnes is just the 12th head coach to lead a third Division I program to the Sweet Sixteen. The Vols (31-5) will take on No. 3 seed Purdue in Louisville, KY, on Thursday.

The Governors (13-0, 1-0 OVC) showed no signs of slowing down in the opening match of Ohio Valley Conference play, earning their ninth shutout win of the season over the Tigers (5-6, 0-1 OVC).

NASA’s Terra Satellite takes images of Meteor “Fireball” over Bering Sea

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationPasadena, CA – On December 18th, 2018, a large “fireball” – the term used for exceptionally bright meteors that are visible over a wide area – exploded about 16 miles (26 kilometers) above the Bering Sea.

The explosion unleashed an estimated 173 kilotons of energy, or more than 10 times the energy of the atomic bomb blast over Hiroshima during World War II.

Two NASA instruments aboard the Terra satellite captured images of the remnants of the large meteor.
