City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville has reopened the intersection of Edmondson Ferry Road and the U.S. Highway 41A Bypass.

The $1.2 million project enhanced the safety of the intersection by lowering the hill on the south side of the Bypass and adjusting slightly the alignment of the crossing roads.

A section of Edmondson Ferry Road south of the Bypass also was rebuilt with curbs and gutters.

Drivers should be advised that construction activity will continue for the next several weeks mostly on the north side of the Bypass. The additional work will include additional lanes and installation of traffic signals, sidewalks and a crosswalk. The southern approach will be controlled with a stop sign until the traffic signal is complete.

The construction, which was started a year ago, was delayed by utility relocation problems. The work required closing of the intersection and a detour to enter the neighborhood south of the bypass.

The project began after a years-long process by residents and City officials to gain Tennessee Department of Transportation approval for signalization and other measures at the busy intersection on a key stretch of state road that connects Downtown Clarksville with Interstate 24 at Exit 11.

Byard Construction, Clarksville, was awarded the contract on a bid of $1,172,431 to widen the intersection, add traffic signals, turn lanes, curbs and gutters, and sidewalks. City capital projects money funded most of the work, and some federal money administered by the City Office of Housing and Community Development, is being used to pay for the sidewalks.
