Nashville Sounds beat Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park, 8-2

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Chase d’Arnaud clubbed a two-run homer and Ariel Jurado dealt five solid innings as the Nashville Sounds rolled to an 8-2 win over the Iowa Cubs in front of 7,823 fans at First Tennessee Park Friday night.

Nashville collected 11 hits on the night, led by multi-hit performances by Danny Santana, Carlos Tocci and Eli White. The trio reached base safely nine times in the win.

Tocci helped start the scoring immediately in the bottom of the first inning when he led off the home half of the inning with a base hit to left-center. Willie Calhoun walked to put two on for the Sounds, and two batters later the pair pulled off a successful double steal of second and home.

Iowa evened the game at 1-1 in the top of the third in what would be the only damage Jurado would allow. Donnie Dewees tripled to start the inning and Jim Adduci tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

The Sounds quickly went back on top in the bottom of the third when Tocci walked and later came around to score on Santana’s RBI single.

Nolan Fontana sparked a rally in the fourth with a leadoff single. White walked and Tocci followed with a run-scoring single to make it 3-1. Two batters later Matt Davidson plated another run with a base hit to extend the lead to 4-1.

Jurado got some help from catcher Jose Trevino in the fifth when he threw out Dewees trying to swipe second base after a leadoff single. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits in five innings. He didn’t issue any walks and struck out five in the win.

d’Arnaud’s two-run blast to deep left field happened after Santana started the home half of the fifth with a base hit. Moments later, White’s triple into the right field corner plated Trevino to extend Nashville’s lead to 7-1.

Nashville’s bullpen trio of CD Pelham, Ariel Hernandez and Nick Gardewine shutout the Cubs for four innings.
