APSU Men’s Golf heads to Nashville for Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate

APSU Men's GolfClarksville, TN – As final tests ahead of the conference tournament go, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s golf team’s final tune-up will be a doozy.

The 2019 Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate awaits the Govs, beginning Monday at Richland Country Club in Nashville.

A loaded field featuring not only defending Atlantic Sun champion and tournament host Lipscomb but also two top-150 programs via Golfstat rankings in USC Upstate and Florida Gulf Coast, 2018 Summit League champion North Dakota State, 2018 Missouri Valley Conference champion Bradley and an Ohio Valley Conference foe in Belmont will give the Govs a good idea of where they are as a team heading into tournament time.

All this will play out on an unforgiving, 6,962-yard, par-71 track with narrow, tree-lined fairways and lush greens.

The lineup remains the same, albeit in a different order. Sophomore Chase Korte slots in as the No. 1, followed by junior Austin Lancaster, freshman Micah Knisley, junior Michael Busse and sophomore Garrett Whitfield. Added to the travel roster this week is junior Alex Vegh, who will make his spring debut looking to recapture some of the glory from his fall opener at the Golfweek Challenge, where he finished 10th.

A solid week in Nashville would likely cement Korte’s second straight All-OVC honor, while Knisley is in the mix for OVC Freshman of the Year honors and could separate himself with a quality finish.

More intriguing are Busse’s chances at All-OVC; his season stroke average of 74.2 is on the lower end of the OVC’s top-30, but he owns two top-10 finishes this spring, and his top-two shooting performances to date happened the last time he visited a par-71 track—a second-round 67 followed by a final-round 68 at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in October.

The 54-hole event kicks off with 36 holes, Monday morning, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. Live scoring for this event will be provided courtesy of GolfStat.com. A complete recap will be available at the end of each day at LetsGoPeay.com, with on-the-scene coverage scheduled for the final round on Austin Peay’s men’s golf twitter (@AustinPeayMGO).
