Clarksville Police Department (CPD)
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Police Officers responded to an armed robbery of the Marathon, 2088 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard around 11:52am.
A man entered the business, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. After he received the money, he fled from the scene.
A witness was able to provide vehicle and tag information to officers.
A CPD detective got behind the vehicle on eastbound Interstate 24 and followed the vehicle adhering to normal speed limits.
In the meantime, dispatchers and officers were coordinating with other agencies to set up a take down of the suspect.
The suspect, for an unknown reason, got spooked around exit 24 making a rapid departure off the interstate. But, there were already several law enforcement agencies in place at exit 24.
Officers from different agencies, including the Clarksville Police Department, started to pursue the vehicle and the suspect left the paved surface and was able to get back on to eastbound I-24 interstate.
There were multiple law enforcement vehicles behind him when the suspect crashed into the rear of a truck around mile marker 27, lost control, flipped the vehicle onto its roof and Charles Mason, age 40, was taken in custody.
He was transported to Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville for medical clearance.
There was a gun, dope, and money recovered.
Charges are pending and the lead investigator is Detective Bartel.
