Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department says millions of Americans will join National Park Trust on May 18th to honor America’s parks and public lands by attending park events in celebration of Kids to Parks Day, observed each year on the third Saturday in May.
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts recently proclaimed Clarksville’s Kids to Parks Day and encourages residents to attend Clarksville’s Kids to Parks Day events, organized by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department or visit any of the City’s 23 parks.
Residents are invited to join in the national day of outdoor play that connects kids and families with their local, state and national parks and public lands and waters by participating in these events.
Wetlands Walk
Saturday, May 18th from 10:00am to 11:00am
Take a guided tour with the City Forester through the paved and wooden walkways at Liberty Park to get a close-up view of the abundant plant and animal life that thrives in the wetlands. Pre-registration is required.
Fun with Fido
Saturday, May 18th from 10:00am to Noon
Treat your pup to a morning at Heritage Park Bark Park. Enjoy the doggie photo booth, dog-related vendors, games, and giveaways!
Sleep Under the Stars Campout
Saturday, May 18th from 2:00pm until 9:00am, Sunday, May 19th
Sleep under the stars and enjoy a bonfire, games, ghost stories and more at our family campout at Billy Dunlop Park. Pre-registration is required.

Proclamation
Kids to Parks Day
WHEREAS, May 18th, 2019 is the ninth Kids to Parks Day
organized and launched by the National Park Trust, held annually on
the third Saturday of May; and
WHEREAS, Kids to Parks Day empowers kids and encourages
families to get outdoors and visit America’s parks; and
WHEREAS, it is important to introduce a new generation to
our nation’s parks; and
WHEREAS, we should encourage children to lead a more active
lifestyle to combat the issues of childhood obesity, diabetes
mellitus, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia; and
WHEREAS, Kids to Parks Day is open to all children and adults
across the country to encourage a large and diverse group
of participants; and
WHEREAS, Kids to Parks Day will broaden children’s appreciation for nature and outdoors; and
NOW THEREFORE, I Joe Pitts, Mayor of the City of Clarksville, do hereby proclaim
to participate in Kids to Parks Day. I urge residents of
Clarksville to make time May 18th, 2019 to take the children in
their lives to a neighborhood, state or national park.
