Clarksville Police ask public’s help combating late night Motor Vehicle Burglaries

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department (CPD) is asking for the public’s assistance to help battle the wave of motor vehicle burglaries and thefts which have been occurring across the City.

Many of these crimes are occurring during nighttime hours, sometime between 11:00pm and 4:00am. Based on video surveillance footage, investigations, and arrests juveniles have been large contributors to these crimes.

Since June 1st, 2019 there have been over 150 vehicle burglaries and 80 motor vehicle thefts.

There have been over 50 juvenile petitions filed in June for seven juveniles under the age of 17 for vehicle burglaries and motor vehicle thefts.

Also, to coincide with those numbers 74 juveniles have been charged for a variety of other crimes in June.

In an effort to reduce juvenile related crimes, the Clarksville Police Department will be implementing a stronger enforcement of curfew violations. CPD is asking for the public’s help in this endeavor to reduce crime by notifying law enforcement through 911 when minors are believed to be in violation of the city ordinance Sec 10-205 – Curfew for Minors:

Sec. 10-205. – Curfew for minors.

It shall be unlawful for any minor fifteen (15) years of age and younger to loiter, idle, wander, stroll, or play in or upon the public streets, highways, roads, alleys, parks, playgrounds, or other public grounds, public places or public buildings, places of amusement and entertainment, vacant lots, or other unsupervised places between the hours of 11:00pm and 6:00am on the following day. Furthermore, it shall be unlawful for any minor over the age of fifteen (15) years, but under the age of eighteen (18) years, to loiter, idle, wander, stroll, or play in or upon the public streets, highways, roads, alleys, parks, playgrounds or other public grounds, public places or other public buildings, places of amusement and entertainment, vacant lots, or other unsupervised places between the hours of 1:00am and 6:00am.

It is provided, however, that the provisions of this section shall not apply to a minor accompanied by his parent, guardian, or other adult person having the care and custody of the minor, or where the minor is upon an emergency errand or legitimate business directed or authorized by his parent, guardian, or other adult person having the care and custody of the minor, or if the minor is married or is a member of the armed services.
